Everyone making model of the vertebrae
Target practice rewew game for memory work. Recite memory work, shoot the frog. Big hit!
/This week we learned some parts of the axial skeleton. To the left of the skeleton diagram is a model of the vertebrae that we made. The pipe cleaner was the spinal cord, and the straws cut into sections represent the vertebrae while the gummy rings are the discs. The kids could really see, that are backbone isn't just one bone, but many; allowing us to be so flexible. Of course they got to eat gummy rings.
Kyle's writing assignment was about the Lost Colony IEW style. We had to talked about plagiarism. He continued reading his assigned books for Semester 1 and books for fun at night. The other kids read about Pilgrims and the Mayflower, each at their level. And continued their respective reading programs.
Math is going surprisingly well. I am using Horizons K for Kason and Kendal. Horizons 1 for Peyton. Kaden has a public school grade 3 math text. And Kyle is using IXL and SOL tests exclusively right now. All the kids are using IXL.
Geography is going great. We are learning the countries in South America using mnemonics.
We colored the Mona Lisa this week, which I'll probably post later this week.
We haven't gotten to Spanish, timeline, or computer programming yet. We also need to make our skeletal hand cookies. Kendal and I made the cookie dough, and 1 sample hand one night this week. We ran out of time for the kids to do the project. So they'll do it on Monday, they're really looking forward to it. Because CC is only 24 weeks and our normal school year is 36 weeks. Whatever we don't get done, we'll just do the last third of the year. For example, last week we were scheduled to make a cell model cake, but ran out of time. No problem...I just pushed it back to the last third of the year.
And we started our homeschool co-op this week. The kids' classes are:
Kyle: Debate, Dave Ramsey Personal Finance, It All Begins with Genesis, and PE
Kaden: PE, Lego Building, Drawing Class
Peyton: PE, Lego Building, Drawing Class
Kason: PE, Backyard Bugs, Alphabet Book
Kendal: PE, Colors and Counting, Frozen(art and science using Frozen characters)
