Why Homeschool? 90% of Christian Parents...
Why Christian Parents Should Consider Homeschooling? Introduction Part II
90% of Christian parents send their children to public school(IndoctriNation).
Why?
Well... Christian parents want their kids to get an education. School is an educational institution, it's free, it's convenient, it's the norm, it gets the job done, it's "religiously neutral", why not?
When you get down to the matter, and define it; Christian parents want their kids to learn certain things from the public school system:
• Reading
• Writing
• Math
• Science
• History
• Fine arts
• Music
• Electives.
And many Christian parents would add to this list:
• How to evangelize their friends and teachers
• How to live in the world and not of the world
• How to socialize with their peer group
• How to be salt and light in a dark world
• How to righteously respond to sin and temptation
• How to be Godly in an ungodly world
• How to be all things to all people, in order to win some
• How to stand firm in their faith
• They want their kids to learn to deal with the real world
• They don't want to shelter their kids
• They don't want their kids to be un-relatable
• They don't want their kids to be a misfit in society
Christian parents do not want their children to learn from this same system:
• morals
• values
• ethics
• attitudes
• doctrine
• character
• worldview
• tolerance
• sex-education
• marriage and family relationships
• boy-girl relationships
• homosexuality
• religion
As Christian parents we must ask?
1.Are the schools doing a good job teaching my children what I want them to know?
2.Are the schools doing a good job teaching my children what I don't want them to know?
3.Are my children the evangelists or the evangelized?
Both lists contain a monumental amount of information that Christian parents must consider, this decision is too important to be made thoughtlessly. But all too often it is made thoughtlessly because even as Christians we are enchanted by our culture. We blindly follow and obey the rules of culture by default. But we must stop and ask in every situation, "Will this be a help or a hindrance to my child's future as a disciple of Jesus?"
I will use the above questions and statements to bring out many things Christian parents must consider about their child's education. Parents must be prepared to teach all of these subjects and answer all of these questions whether they "homeschool" or send their children to school. All parents "homeschool", some full-time, some part-time, some on nights and weekends. Every parent is a teacher.
Each part of the series will focus on just one thought for Christian parents to consider.
