Talking to Your Kids about Homosexuality
By Heart of Wisdom Academy - Monday, March 24, 2014
Your kids will see
openly gay couples. Do everyone a favor and teach them how to respond. Have a
devotional lesson about homosexuality and teach them by example how to respond.
Don't Contort Your Face:
Nothing says "Come to Jesus" like a raised
eyebrow, wrinkled nose, and a furrowed brow. That's not an invitation it's
contempt! As God’s people we aren't The Judge, we only tell people what
The Judge is going to say. The rule is simple; don’t look at people with
criticism, judgment, scorn, and hatred. They are harassed and helpless. Respond
with compassion.
Matthew 7:12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you."
Matthew 7:12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you."
Sin is NOT a Civil Right:
Although the homosexual agenda tries to equate gay rights to
civil rights there is a difference. God calls homosexuality a sin. He doesn't
call being African American, Jewish, or Unborn a sin. That’s the difference! Sin is not a civil right. Show them how far the world is willing to go to legalize sin. Guess who else
wants civil rights? Pedophiles! Although they prefer to be called minor
attracted people. They're lobbying for their rights too. Respond in humility.
"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil" Isaiah 5:20
You're NOT much different:
“That’s soooo disgusting”. Yes, and so is your sin, and my sin and all sin. Sin
is disgusting. Don’t think you’re a better person because homosexuality isn't
your vice. It's fine to turn up your nose at sin, but you better make sure that you start and end with your own sin. Teach your children to hate sin. Teach them to hate their own sin more than anyone else's. Respond in humility.
God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collecotr. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. Luke 18:9-14
OK, use reason here. Yes correct, reprove, disciple, and admonish believers in sin; but don't think you're better because you don't war against the same sin they do. Teach this to your kids.
Homophobic? Don’t Be!
Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11
You have brothers and sisters in Christ who used to be gay and still struggle with, and may always struggle with those sinful desires. In fact, I watched a documentary that stated that there are more ex-gays than current gays. Teach your children that if they choose to become a follower of Jesus, these will be their brothers and sisters too. And as brothers and sisters in Christ, we pray for each other, confess our sins to each other, love each other, rebuke each other, and hold one another accountable to the commitment we each made to Jesus. And when we meet gays and lesbians who aren't saved, our duty is to persuade them; that they too may be washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Respond in faith.
