Family Update

I love waking up to his face. I'm so glad I'm feeling much better and able to enjoy my family and life again. Every morning he asks to eat maple syrup oatmeal and listen to My Little Yellow Bus cassette tape. This morning he also asked to play Lincoln Logs. I'm so glad I got to enjoy him this morning.

This is my daughter's natural hair. I think she has 4b type hair...I've been watching a lot of You Tube videos trying to find out. She has about 50% shrinkage right after washing and then 75% shrinkage after if fully dries. Normally I braid her hair in small braids each month which takes about 6 hours from start to finish. No small task, especially with a sick mommy. But placing rubber bands on her ends for the last 4 or 5 years has really weakened and damaged her ends. So I've been looking online for protective styles which don't require rubber bands. And I found this...
It's called Ghana threading. I'm honestly too lazy to link but if you search on You Tube you'll find tutorials. I bought some weave thread and followed the online tutorial, and now she has a protective style that took about an hour and half and lasts for a couple of weeks. I'm happy.

Ghana threading is just wrapping or binding weave thread around the hair. This particular style looks like she has two-strand twists, but it's really the Ghana threading. I think I'll improve as I continue practicing, but it works for now, we're both pleased.
I moved all the bunk beds into one room.
 Everyone loves the new arrangement.
Building bridges using non corrugated paper
  and then corrugated paper
The kids learned which shapes were the strongest for building. I think the triangle and cylinder won.
 Making a trash chute
Making straws out of paper, learned about China where straws were first invented.
Everyone tried their hand at making cantilever bridges
He destroyed cantilever bridges

Other Randomness

  • Feeling much better, still taking something to control the vomiting
  • Now, that I'm not vomiting I plan to take up reading again. I think I'm going to go through the Anne of Green Gables Series
  • I've been listening to Courtship from Toddlers to Teens by Reb Bradley
  • I finished listening to Parenting Teens with the Wisdom of Solomon by Reb Bradley
  • I finished listening to Bringing Your Children to an Early Maturity by Reb Bradley
  • I really recommend all of his messages, I was so grateful to find these cassette tapes at last year's homeschooling convention for less than $10. I have had my eye on all of these messages for years but they're pricey.
  • Light homeschool through the summer and I need to start planning for next year. I'll have a 6th grader, 2 second graders, and 2 preschoolers.
  • This summer I will be watching Teaching Writing Structure and Style Seminar from the Institute of Excellence in Writing
  • Can't wait to go on another date with my husband, we had one last week and it was awesome!
