Homeschool mamas, don’t get caught up in high school credits. Teach your children the really important things BECAUSE they are the really important things.
There are so many issues that a young adult needs to know that may not fit perfectly on a high school transcript. You need to teach them things that their future college may not care about.
Teach them anyway.
Teach the Bible, first and foremost. Read it with and to your children.
Educate them in worldview studies. This is so profoundly important, over math and science and composition and history. And yet, it influences all of these.
Give them plenty of time and opportunity to practice critical thinking, debate, and logic.
Train them to be godly men and women, prepared to raise the next generation of godly men and women. How often do we train our offspring for their careers and trades, but teach them very little about the most important role of parenting?
Academics are necessary to a well-rounded individual. Being well-educated is extremely important for Christians in this world. But education is not just about checking off boxes and creating a snazzy transcript.
Education is shaping individuals. It is molding minds for great things. It is preparing them for whatever path God takes them down, not just the approval of the college admissions board.
Let God’s wisdom guide you as a high school counselor, not the wisdom of this world. Check off boxes where appropriate and necessary, but make sure those boxes are not your master. This life is so much more than a transcript.
