Schools' Closed for the YEAR

By Kristal - Wednesday, March 25, 2020

  • Pretty much sums up the week. The Governor of Virginia closed all schools for the rest of the year.
  • EVERYONE is forced to homeschool.
  • Based on my Facebook feed, there is a lot of weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth (mostly from the parents) lol.
  • All jokes aside, my heart and prayers really are with all of the families.
  • No one was prepared for this. Public and private school teachers have hastened to get homework packets created for their students, quite expediently, I might add.
  • For someone with 3 kids each taking 5-7 subjects, I can only imagine the stress and anxiety parents are facing having to help their kids get these homework packets done. Many of the parents are now teleworking as well. The learning curve is steep.
  • The local schools are serving bag lunches Mon-Friday. This is a great help for many families. Most people haven't budgeted for breakfast, lunch, and snacks 5 times a week. The program is helping a lot of families.
  • The appreciation and respect for teachers are at an all-time high. Nigh unto God-like.
  • Homeschool Moms? Even higher. LOL The thought that some parents actually choose to do this AND like it, has blown minds.
  • Our family has been largely unaffected. My husband's job is essential, so he is working for now. Thank you Jesus. My job is online and has been unaffected. The kids have always been homeschooled and we've always had to feed them every day.
  • What has changed for us? Basically our social life.
  • As an introvert, nothing has pleased me more in MY ENTIRE LIFE.
