- Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons is a tried and true reading method over here. I've used it (with varying results) with all six children. The back of the book claims that at the end of the book your child will be on a 2nd-grade reading level. I haven't found this to be true in any case (maybe Kyle), but it has taken every child of mine, from not knowing the alphabet to reading (in some form).
- This year we are trying ACE's PACES for spelling or word building.
- Teaching Genesis reminds me of how very different each child is. She reminds me that children learn at their own time and speed. She writes well considering I honestly don't spend a lot of time teaching her at this point. Some children I spend much more time teaching, don't write nearly as well as her. They all have the same teacher, same materials, same resources, but a different set of aptitudes, abilities, and gifts. When I'm determined to judge my self as a teacher, based on their "performance" she reminds me not to. They're all different.
- Slow, sane, education.
- Relaxed homeschooling
