On Tuesday, the first day of school in my area, we had our "Not Back to School" party at the beach!! We generally don't go to the beach during the summer; partly to avoid the immodesty and partly because of the introvert in me. We had the whole beach to ourselves. We had a picnic and enjoyed a delightful day. That beautiful teenager is my niece; she homeschooled with us this week.
A sweet baby sleeping on the beach.
The first week of fifth grade and he moved up to the preteens at church!!
It was a really great first week!! My schedule is extremely handy. I fill in the blanks with what we have done, and it serves as a great record of our year. I was surprised with how much everyone enjoyed our Art study. We are studying Renoir this term and found coloring pages for some of his paintings. Everyone really enjoyed coloring these. I'll show pictures later.
All the children really enjoyed the Burgess Bird book and learning about Wrens.
The twins continued working on digraphs:reading, writing, and spelling them. They also worked on writing the numbers 2,3, and 7. These are problem number reversals for them, so we are working on those. We are also working on correctly using irregular past tense verbs (eat/ate, drink/drank).
Kyle began Saxon 65 which all review right now. The biggest change is that he is now required to do all the problems in the problem set, last year we only did half. We are also trying to increase accuracy and eliminating carelessness in our work.
Kason worked through 100EZ lessons and did very well. He also sounded out 3 letter words and read sight word books. He LOVES books. He goes to bed with a pile of books every night. It is one of the most precious sights.
It's hard to highlight everything that we learned this week because I just don't have enough time, but it's fun to write down a few things that were stored in their hearts and minds. I'm looking forward to implementing a few things next week that we didn't get to this week.
